monday morning
its been a quite day so far. i woke up to the sound of cars whizzing by on high holborn. i quickly took a shower and had breakfast as i had to make it to the train station to get a new oyster card (like an ezpass for travelers in the city) and make it to my train on time. unfortunately i made it to work and realized that there was pretty much nothing for me to do. it's almost lunch time and i've done somewhere around 20 minutes worth of work. i asked me boss if he needs me to get anything done, but no. fortunately i have my iPod with me. i must say though, my iPod battery is proving to be a miracle, almost like that of channukah. the battery indicator has been running low since i arrived at work and has been red for about the past 2 hours. i'm also reminded of the episode of seinfeld when kramer test drove the saab until the gas tank was running on "e."
and so, just after lunch, the miracle of iPod has ended. fortunately, i was able to get through disc 11 of angels & demons. the problem now is that i have nothing to listen to. i suppose now i can begin planning out my travel plans for the next few weekends. i still havent done any more work than that 20 minutes worth earlier today.
i did speak to cousin david who lives in manchester for about 10 minutes. i think i'm going to reserach how much it will cost to make it up there for the weekend. if i try to make it to maninland europe this weekend, i'll probably have to pay a few hundred pounds to get there. this will likely land me somewhere between 50-100 pounds.
lessons learned today: if i want to have something to do around here, i have to ask for it. that doesnt guarantee work to do, but it seems like you can certainly slip through the cracks as an intern here if u just sit back and wait (unlike the US where delegation always finds its way to you). also, carrying my iPod power cord to work is critical from now on. i would love to be able to listen and finish the next 4 discs of angels & demons before i make it back home tonight. i dont even have my other book or a newspaper. hopefully i'll find something on the train on the way back. even more hopefully, my boss will let me out early today. i wouldnt have much to do as the weather today is really shitty (drizzled in the morning, now just a single huge gray sky) and considering no one is around right now. i could do my laundry, finish a & d, read my next book, plan my weekend trips, etc.
the bad news is my boss just asked if i need something to do and i couldnt honestly say no... especially because he knew i had nothing to do. he said he's waiting for an email he was suppose to get a few days ago which he still hasnt received. he wants me to analyze it and figure out who is responsible for what duties (i suppose i'll understand what i have to do when he finally gets the emai). he did just step away from the desk and said that he'll be back soon. i dont know how long that is suppose to be, but this is bs. i should ask for friday's off if they have nothing for me to do. that way i can fly out to different cities on thursday nights and make something more out of this trip.
