Sunday: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!
that's what i woke up to sunday morning around 10 am. the goddamn fire alarm went off and woke my lazy ass up. it wasnt event a real fire. i knew better than to get out of bed, and sure enough it shut off after about 35 seconds. i tried to go back to sleep, but that didnt work. instead i finally got to work on making an album of my 3 consecutive summer trips abroad. i complied a number of pictures from 2 summers ago and last summer, but i definately need to grab some photos from adam and scott to make last summer's complete. this summer's photo compilation will be a difficult one to achieve because there are so many people i need to get pics from, but i think when we go back to school this task will be made much easier with the community K:/on the intranet.
after a couple of hours waiting for matt the lazy birthday boy to wake his ass up, i finally spoke to him and met up for lunch and wimbleton. we when to the restaurant of some hotel near his place and had "as much as you can eat." we ate endless roast beef, potatoes, peas, carrots, yorkshire pudding, gravy, califlower, pasta salad, regular salad, and a couple of beers. good time all around. i learned a lot about tennis, felt too full, and watched federer beat nadal for the 1st time in the past year. we got up and left that place and went to my room to try and book some weekend trips. of course this was to no avail as we could find nothing reasonably priced. instead, we got up and made our way to the hard rock cafe to watch the world cup championship game. we picked up scott on our way there and i owe him a solid kick in the face and/or balls for "love tapping" me on the escalator of the picadilly line. i expect him to have severe, and possibly lasting, testicular damage as a result of the retaliation i'm planning.
after waiting 45 minutes for a table at HRC, we got a table in the basement where we couldnt see the bloody tv. we tried to complain to the dude downstairs, but apprently customer service doesnt exist in this country. he basically told to go F ourselves. we were pissed and we sent scott upstairs to negotiate for a better table (i learned last year in amsterdam that scott has some amazing skill at complaining and negotiating--although that experience in amsterdam had serious homosexual undertones. if you're supremely interested in the details: ask me, herbie, or adam about "35 Euro in the Honeymoon Suite"). he did pull through and get us a mack daddy table. they warned us that they'd kick us out after we were done eating, which was no bother to us because that just encouraged us to take out sweet ass time ordering and eating. fortunately, we were able to watch nearly the whole game from our table, although we did have to watch the end of 2nd extra time and penalty kicks from the bar.
anyway, we wasted time by ordering drinks first, then nachos, then just one order of fajitas, and then a birthday brownie sunday for matt. the waitress we had was super hott. she's from ottawa, but lived in barbados for 9 months b/c she was tired of the -45 degree weather. then she lived in ghana for awhile (this fact sent scott off on the craziest tanget of questions to the poor girl who basically thought scott was out on vacation from a mental hospital--apparently Ghanaese isnt a language...go figure).
after dinner, we decided to take the bus rather than the nasty hot tube back, but the bus didnt stop for us and just drove by. we got pissed and walked to the tube anyway. the escalator was out and we had to walk all the way down. the metal stairs freaked me out as my eyes couldnt handle it. every stair began to blur together and i felt like was about to fall nearly the whole way down. after getting back to holborn, matt and i decided to check out some flights and shit again. after a long debate and nearly giving up on the idea altogether, i thought to myself wtf is another $200-300 if we're already spending $xxxx.xx+ on this whole summer (for most of you, all you get to see is the number of digits we're spending). so, we finally booked one trip to amsterdam for the weekend of aug 5-6. we hope to plan another trip on the weekend of july 29-30, and day trips for this coming weekend.
monday: not much to report here. i had the pleasure of talk to marissa before i went to bed, and when i woke up in the morning : )
next i got up and went to work as usual. finished up my fuel card analysis and was told that my boss is definately bringing this up with senior managment. so basically what that means is as an intern i'm actually providing value to the company. now, what do you think are the chances of me actually getting reimbursed for my travel expenses? in any event, lunch was good that day (cajun spiced lamb, boiled potatoes, boiled carrots, and a bowl of fresh cut fruit w/ 2 glasses of water...MMM!!!).
after work i missed the 1656 train by probably 60-90 seconds. i hung around for the 1511 train and enjoyed the glory of london traffic on the bus ride back. normally i would have eschewed this headache and walked back, but it was raining in true london fashion, so i said F that. i met up with liz and mike to begin cooking dinner (b/c amy was too F'ing lazy to help--jk amy ; ) ) . i really tried to help but i had to have my tomato soup first MMM!!! next i tried to help with the bread crumbs for our breaded chk dinner, but i think all i did was piss people off in the proces of making spectacular bread crumbs. we tore up a fresh baguette and then put it in the over to dry. that took a while. next we tried to smash it with a wooden spoon...didnt quite get the job done. next we tried to fork the shit out of the bread...didnt work so well either. then, everyone else gave up and said that it was good enough. i wasnt satisfied and began my creative rampage to make great bread crumbs. next step was a small bowl. i tried to smash them with the rim of the bowl, this worked well. next i turned it over. that worked better. then, i was inspired. i saw liz holding two cups stacked together and i had an idea. i filled a pyrex measuring cup with the bread and began to crush the bread with another smaller glass like a pestle and mortar. in my opinion, the tiny bread crumbs were well worth the effort. that's all i've got to say about that.
after dinner the girls and mike went out to pick up more booze and snacks. i stayed in and watched entourage episodes 2-3 (thank you scott). fuckin amazing. i love that show. anyway....they came back and i went to chill w/ them in liz's room. they were funny--that's all i'm going to say. also liz guessed the exact color and print of my boxers. i was freked out.
that's pretty much it for now. look forward to a review of wednesday night as matt and i travel to wembly to see the one and only billy joel live in concert!!!!
