Weekend Update with Norm MacDonald
Fajita Fridays- last friday was fajita night. amy, liz, and i whipped up some awesome chk fajitas with plenty of red, yellow, and green peppers. after dinner all got ready and we pre-gamed in pete's room. after chillin for a while, our large group, which was destined for fabric, disolved and half of us ceceeded into the Sports Cafe. a good time was had by all. matt bought me too many drinks (shame on you).
Silly Saturday- so everyone overslept (excpet me, because i woke up at 7am to the sounds of london sanitation taking care of the trash) on saturday and we never made it to oxford, i didnt get to see macbeth, and things didn't go according to plan. matt and i had some bitter hunger battles over what to do, what to eat, and when to eat it. it was nearly 2pm and neither of us had eaten since dinner the night before--i still had lingering drunk munchies. we eventually made it to knightsbridge to see a live performance of mozart's music. the tix were a mere 5 pounds and well worth it. matt, on the other hand, paid 5 pounds to take a nap in an uncomfortable church turned concert hall. for lunch, just before the show, we could find nothing but this dodgy looking deli--we settled. in the end we were super happy. we both both fresh tomato and mozzerella on a fresh bagguette with balsamic vinegar and rocket salad. a top all of these goodies was a delicious chicken escalope (MMM!)--all this was toasted like a quizno's sub but a million times better and healthier. to wash it all down, i had my first mango flavored iced tea (amazing) after the concert we walked through some department store--the name escapes me. it was ridiculously crowded, cluttered, and expensive (despite their mega "sale"-- a Fin' button down was marked down 50% but still 100 pounds). next we walked over to harrod's where matt persisted in looking at non-sense and patronizing my reluctance and unwilingness to waste my money on over priced everything and anything. mind you, harrod's has everything the world has to offer, from clothes to accessories, to food to cigars. we saw a cell phone for 25,000 pounds. yes that's $50,000 for a cell phone equipped with yahmaha speakers and sapphire something or other. point is WTF!!! also noteworth about the area is the extreme wealth that seems to pervade the area. we saw endless porsches, several different ferraris, a couple lambourginis, a million mercedes, bentleys galore, and a couple sweet Rolls. on our way back we stopped at the persian restaurant to see what was up tonight. we found out that there would be belly dancing there tonight and so we made a reservation. this time scott and sunil came with us to dinner. so we all went back, got ready for dinner and enjoyed a great meal. we had a sampler for appetizer (Masto Kheyar: Thick, minty Persian yoghurt with cucumber and garlic; Spinach Bourani:Fried spinach in a garlic and yoghurt sauce; Ghel Ghely: Spicy meatballs in tomato sauce; Chicken Olivieh: Potato, shredded vegetables, gherkins and egg mayo; Mirza Ghasemi : Grilled aubergines in a tomato and garlic sauce; and of course plenty of Lavash) and a bottle of chilean white wine to cool us down. i got the lamb again for dinner because it was just soooo good, but vow to try the chicken next time. the other three dudes all got stews (Chicken & apricot (fruity & sour): Gently fried chicken fillet cooked in a golden plum, apricot, spinach, lentil and saffron sauce; Lamb and lime: Diced lamb fillet cooked with yellow lentils and aubergine in saffron tomato sauce; Lamb and herb gormeh: Diced lamb fillet with kidney beans cooked in fresh fried herbs, cherry tomato, onions & Persian dried lime). During dinner the belly dancer came out and scott was enthralled (are you suprised)? as she began to call patrons out the dance floor, scott hoped that he would be one of them, but she come to me first (again, is anyone suprised?).
but in true neman fashion, i had to uphold my dad's tradition and tell her that someone who is sitting at our table has a birthday today--of course i say scott. he was on cloud 9^2 (i think he still might Sorry, forgot to rotate : ( be). after all the dancing fun we finsihed up dinner with dessert (Anar jelly: Fresh pomegranate in jelly & pomegranate ice cream) and some coffee. the 4 of us left the restaurant toward Sports Cafe again (yuck). matt and i saw a woman handing out promo flyers for tigertiger and we took them. it got us into the place w/ no cover, first drink free, and priority entrance (no waiting in line). the place was pretty banging, but the crowd was a bit older (mid-upper 20's).it was definately worth going to, but not an amazing time. maybe it would be more fun if there were a few less then 1500 ppl there. the place was HUGE. They have 6 bars, a restaurant, a techno room, a lounge, a large open bar area, and a poorly lit area for people who have moves but no looks. after 3 hours or so, matt and i were gone. i went home and caught up with some people online for a bit and passed the F out.
The Crew
SUNnyDAY- today was interesting. matt and i made our way to the tate modern on foot.
we stopped for lunch at a pub right on the Thame river. on our way to the museum we saw a famous street performer: the bugieman (http://www.budgieman.co.uk/). The Budgieman himself! he trained parrokeets (called budgies) to do whatever he told them to. apparently he's a landmark street performer and i was very lucky to get to see him perform.we went to pick up our tickets at the information desk and matt and i had a good laugh. the lady asked for the name and we said, "Joshua Neman." she asked us to confirm the address. i said "123 fake street." she then proceeded to give us the tickets. we made our way to the kandinsky exhibit
(http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/kandinsky/) and paid for the audio guides (not as informative as i would have liked). the exhibit was new to me, in the sense that i didnt know much about expressionism and hadn't been exposed to it. i learned a lot, but mostly that i dont really like it. it's really weird, seemingly meaningless stuff--to me at least.
i convinced matt that it was time to head back to the residence halls as we were getting tired and hungry. we finally made it back and as we were passing by the covered garage part of the building i noticed that there was a leak in the roof and said, "that sucks." of course when i make my way up to my flat it's flooded. yes, flooded:
since that fateful day, i've bitched and bitched and hope to be compensated soon. i've lived in the governer's house (another lse residence hall), and now i'm back to high holborn, but on a different floor (11th). it's hot as balls up here, but thank god i milked a fan out of the reception. also, i had to do laundry on a bunch of clean clothes that got wet and soiled. the nice thing about this room is that i dont have noisy flatmates and i have a great view of the embankment area of the thames (namely the london eye). the shitty part is that the elevator takes forever, and yeah its hot as balls.
thats all i've got for now. i've been asked to hurry up and post. i'll try to add some more to his baby later. pictures are soon to come.
